Napatree Point Westerly , RI

Location

Description: If you’re looking for a leisurely pace, a great beach, good food, upscale boutiques and spectacular views, set a course for Watch Hill Harbor and Napatree Point. Veteran boaters have long appreciated the area’s long sand beach, protected anchorage and quick access to a town with good restaurants and interesting shops. However, if you plan to visit for more than a day, bring some essentials, as Watch Hill Harbor doesn’t have any large grocery stores or other places to reprovision. No fuel either, by the way.

The approach to the anchorage at Napatree is a bit intimidating, but perfectly straightforward.

Navigate to Stonington and pick up the course as shown. Note that you go BETWEEN the green buoy and the tip of Sandy Pt. It is a bit tight, so watch for opposing boats and be smart.

Watch Hill "downtown" is very interesting to visit, but access is somewhat limited. The dinghy dock can be really crowded, and landing anywhere else is problematic.

From the anchorage it is very popular to dinghy to the north side of Napatree Point and walk across the sand to the beach on the other side.

Holding is good, and the anchorage is well protected.

Sunsets can be spectacular at Napatree.

Watch Hill sports many shops and restaurants.

The Flying Horse Carousel is famous.
Watch Hill is home port to the restored yacht Aphrodite.
